In an earnest endeavour to address the healthcare needs of underserved communities in the Philippines, the Light4All foundation meticulously planned and executed a medical mission to Quezon City in Metro Manila, leveraging cooperation among local government units, non-governmental organizations, and other governmental agencies. The initiative aimed to extend medical and dental assistance and deliver efficient and effective healthcare services to those with little to no access to health care services, particularly focusing on remote barangays and depressed areas within Metro Manila.
To fulfill this noble objective, a dedicated team of doctors and medical professionals from Australia led by Dr. Phoebe Moheb, the director of the Light4All foundation, embarked on a journey to provide vital healthcare interventions directly to the doorstep of those in need. Equipped with medical supplies, diagnostic equipment, and a compassionate spirit, the team ventured on December 23 and 25, 2023 into the remote barangays of Pinyahan and Marytown, Loyola Heights, Quezon City where access to healthcare services was scarce or non-existent.
The medical team which comprised of 5 physicians, a cardiologist, an optometrist, 4 dentists, a dental assistant, a gastroenterologist, a physiotherapist, and other Australian volunteers and supporting staff, brought a wealth of expertise to the depressed areas of the barangays, providing a comprehensive range of medical services, including general check-ups, cardio and gastro consultations, blood pressure and sugar level monitoring, dental check-ups, tooth extractions, eye examinations, free ultrasound screenings, and distribution of free eyeglasses. In addition, participants who received prescriptions were generously provided with free medications, ensuring holistic care and treatment.
In addition to the healthcare services, the medical team built rapport with the patients, understanding their needs, sympathizing with them, and providing compassionate care to a community that needed it the most.
The mission was a resounding success, benefiting a total of 116 patients. Despite the challenges and constraints, participants expressed profound gratitude and satisfaction for the opportunity to receive much-needed medical care during the holiday season. The collaborative efforts of the Light4All foundation, the dedicated medical team, volunteers, and staff exemplified the power of compassion, solidarity, and service in making a positive impact on the lives of underserved populations.
