Scouting Without Borders: Filipino and Australian Scouts Come Together for a Day Camp

Day camps play a crucial role in shaping young individuals by fostering teamwork, leadership, and survival skills through engaging and hands-on activities. They help build confidence, resilience, and camaraderie while encouraging independence and environmental awareness.

In line with this mission, Light for All Foundation, in collaboration with the Victoria Scouts from Melbourne, Australia, organized an enriching day camp at Flora Ylagan High School on January 25, 2025. The event brought together Boy and Girl Scout leaders for a day filled with learning, adventure, and fun.

The program began with the entrance of colors, followed by the singing of the national anthems of the Philippines and Australia, symbolizing the spirit of unity and cultural exchange. The Scouts then participated in various camping games and learned about the history of pioneering, reinforcing essential scouting skills.

One of the highlights of the camp was the patrol cooking competition, where participants demonstrated their creativity and teamwork in preparing meals. To further support the Scouts in their future activities, Light for All Foundation donated two griller/cookers—one for the Boy Scouts and one for the Girl Scouts—enhancing their ability to practice outdoor cooking skills. After showcasing their culinary talents, everyone gathered to enjoy the food they had prepared together.

The Scouts also reaffirmed their commitment to the values of scouting by proclaiming their promise and law, emphasizing their dedication to service, integrity, and responsibility. The event concluded on a high note with campfire songs, creating a memorable and spirited atmosphere.

A total of 16 Boy and Girl Scout leaders actively took part in the program, guided and supported by their dedicated head, Mrs. Maricris Chua. Their enthusiasm and teamwork made the event a resounding success, further strengthening the bond between Filipino and Australian Scouts.

This collaborative initiative reflects the shared commitment of Light for All Foundation and Victoria Scouts to empowering young individuals through meaningful experiences that inspire leadership, friendship, and a love for the great outdoors.

Voices of Success:

Ang experience ko po dito sa Flora, yung the best experience ko po ay yung pagtutulungan namin dito and yung pagluluto namin dito. Tyaka masaya din pong magscouting dahil marami kayong makikilala at makakapunta din po kayo sa malalayong lugar. – Rexford Sumalinog, FYHS Scout

I must admit we came from Australia not knowing what to expect. We wanted to take the kids to a service trip, they do a lot of scouting stuff but we want them to understand and appreciate what others goes through and how others live. The experience so far has been outstanding, we love the kids, we love the country. The kids learned tips and I am sure they will go back much more matured and much older and they will be amazing adults. Thank you and thanks for having us! – Jeannette Ghaly, St. Mina Scouts Leader
