Addressing Mental Health at Pinyahan Elementary School: A Step Towards Well-Being
On August 22, 2024, Pinyahan Elementary School took a significant step towards enhancing the well-being of both its students and teachers through a dedicated medical mission. Dr. Kelada, a psychiatrist, and Simone, a psychiatric nurse, both visited the school to address the mental health concerns of the entire school community.
During their visit, Dr. Kelada and Simone engaged with the teachers, offering support and guidance on managing stress. They identified several common stressors affecting the school environment, including large class sizes, low salaries, extensive administrative tasks, and the challenge of dealing with students showing a range of behaviors.
For teachers, the focus was on practical strategies to manage these stressors. Recommendations included prioritizing self-care, seeking support from colleagues, and implementing time management techniques to handle administrative tasks more efficiently. They also emphasized the importance of creating a supportive classroom environment to better manage diverse student behaviors.
This proactive approach highlights the growing recognition of the importance of mental health in educational settings. By equipping educators with the tools and support they need, Pinyahan Elementary School is paving the way for a healthier and more resilient school community.
Voices of Success:
“Seminar is very fabulous. A lot of things that I have learned in the discussion. First, stress and how to manage it. Second, having a communication. The main impact to me, is how to manage stress and that stress is hard to release and first how to manage stress is, we need to pray first, always have faith, and believe in your self.” – Jacqueline Aguilar, Grade 1 Teacher
“The seminar was good. Masaya po siya and very educational sa part po naming mga teachers. I learned many things, like how to manage stress and how to avoid stress. Napaka laki po nang impact ng lecture na naituro sa amin bilang isang guro. Marami po kaming natutunan at nalaman, lalo na po pagdating sa mga medical aspects po. Pagsasagawa ng mga hakbang na dapat gawin sa mga bata na wala pong focus sa pag-aaral, lalo na po yung may behavioral problem.” – Erlene Cayabyab, Grade 3 Teacher
