Unlocking Opportunities: Enhancing Job Prospects Through Computer Literacy
In partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the Light For All Foundation (LfA) launched its first batch of computer literacy training from January to March 2024. This three-month course aimed to equip the community with essential computer skills, enhancing their employability opportunities, and was offered free of charge.
The training commenced with five trainees and covered key areas, including:
a. Basic computer skills,
b. Introducing the major parts and functions of computer,
c. Introducing the basic Microsoft Office (MS) applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and
d. Introducing the basic elements of the curriculum vitae (CV). This part was followed by a working/practical session on developing basic draft of each of the trainees CV which is essential for getting a job.
This initiative proved beneficial for the community, enabling participants to acquire relevant skills aligned with modern employment standards. Before graduation, trainees shared their experiences, highlighting the knowledge gained about computers and essential skills. The training culminated in a successful presentation of their outputs to DICT during the graduation ceremony, where LfA was recognized as a key partner in promoting computer literacy. A month later, follow-up interviews revealed that several trainees applied for jobs in Tacloban, successfully leveraging their certificates to gain an advantage in the hiring process.
