Breaking Cycles, Building Futures: Strengthening Families Through Psychosocial Support

The Light for All Foundation has launched the Professional Learning Series, a program designed to equip social workers and psychologists with the latest research, theories, and methodologies in their fields. This initiative ensures that professionals stay informed about current advancements and best practices while reinforcing their understanding and application of ethical standards. By doing so, the program helps participants navigate complex ethical dilemmas and maintain the highest standards of practice.

In the program’s first batch, professionals were divided into three committees, with one group focusing specifically on supporting parents. This group operated on the belief that empowering parents directly benefits their children, creating a positive domino effect within families.

A total of 18 parents participated in the discussions facilitated by this committee. Key topics included:

  1. Love Languages and Self-Care
The sessions highlighted the concept of love languages, emphasizing their role in fostering self-love and self-care. Parents were encouraged to recognize and honor their own emotional needs, which, in turn, strengthens their ability to care for their children.
  2. Breaking Intergenerational Trauma
The committee addressed the critical issue of intergenerational trauma, guiding participants to reflect on how unresolved negative experiences from the past can unconsciously be passed down to future generations. With a deeper understanding of these dynamics, parents were empowered to break the cycle and nurture healthier relationships.
  3. Parenting Styles
Participants explored various parenting styles and shared their personal experiences in an open and supportive environment. This exchange of insights and challenges created a valuable learning opportunity, enabling parents to gain diverse perspectives and strategies to address common parenting concerns.

By focusing on self-awareness, healing, and community learning, this committee helped parents build a foundation for healthier family dynamics. The Professional Learning Series not only supports professionals in their development but also facilitates meaningful change in the communities they serve. Through initiatives like these, the Light for All Foundation continues to champion the well-being of individuals and families alike.

Voices of Success:

– Ging Altavano
